The Liberian Mandingoes Association in the United Kingdom (LIMAUK) is
an organization set up in furtherance of the general welfare, the common
defence, and the wellbeing of Liberian Mandingos in the United Kingdom
and those in Liberia by providing educational, health and social assistance.
LIMAUK was established in 2005 to empower her members and community through
educational and social services. As an association of People of Mandingo
descent living in the United Kingdom, LIMAUK has preserved the Mandingo
culture, protected and promoted the interest of the Mandingo communities
in the UK, Liberia and abroad. Encouraged dialogue and activities indicative
of peace, unity and reconciliation. We have also formed collaborative
alliances with other Mandingo organizations operating within Liberia and
in the Diaspora.
The
mission of LIMAUK is to build the capacity of our community through
community empowerment by
providing educational, health,
social, community
involvement and peace building. LIMAUK’s vision has been to
become a growing organization that will serve as a medium
through which members
of our community can be empowered to positively participate
in the development of the United Kingdom and the rebuilding
process of Liberia.
Aims and objectives
· Support
social, economic and educational programs for the needy and underprivileged
in the UK and
Liberia.
· Promote
cross-cultural education and awareness.
· Portray
Mandingo Cultural heritage.
Our Programs
To achieve this goal, LIMAUK undertakes the following activities:
· Conducts
frequent general acquaintance meeting of members.
· Organizes
cultural and traditional festivals to celebrate Mandingo traditional
and Liberian national
holidays.
· Identifies
with members in time of joy and distress
· Support
inter-cultural programs to create awareness on the importance of
cultural values and social
integration.
· Relieve
the need of Liberian Mandingoes in the United Kingdom in particular
but not exclusively those
who are Asylum Seekers/Refugees
by the provision of advice, access to information on employment,
health issues and education, interpretation and other services
.
· To advance
the education and to relieve financial hardship of Mandingo youth
and orphans in Liberia.
· Support
members in need of assistance like New Members, Unaccompanied Minors,
Single Parents and needy
children.
Leadership
LIMAUK has a leadership
structure that consists of the following;
* Executive Board
Members of this
Board are elected for a defined period provided in the constitution
and includes the President,
Vice President, Secretary General,
Treasurer and Financial Secretary. This Board supervises
various Coordinators and other committess like Ways & Means,
welfare, Sports etc.
* Advisory Board
LIMAUK maintains an advisory board comprising individuals from relevant
academic and social backgrounds. Members of the advisory board shall give
advice (in their areas of expertise) to elected officials of LIMAUK. Moreover,
the advisory board shall have the authority to either sanction or censure
all public statements/publications made on behalf of LIMAUK.
