Members
of our beloved organization from all over the United Kingdom arrived in
Leeds yesterday to celebrate the joyous occasion of the arrival of an additional
member of the Kenneh family. The occasion was blessed with the presence
some VIPs of the Mandingo community of the United Kingdom that included
Hon. Kafumba Konneh of the Liberian Embassy, Sister Jenneh Sidibay of London,
the President of the Mande Community of Leeds and many other friends and
associates from around the country.
The programme that was scheduled for 1400BST started as planned
with a fantastic animation from one of the most recognized music group
of Yorkshire that entertained guests with traditional Mande music from
the likes of Salif Keita, Sekuoba Bambino, and Manfila Kante just to
name few.
Mr. Kaba of the Mande Community of Leeds welcomed guests into
the city and expressed his satisfaction with the level of participation.
For him, there was no need to say that the Liberian Mandingos of United
Kingdom are united as the number of people at this programme is a clear
proof that we do everything as a unit and encouraged us to continue this
good work. He promised to use our example to motivate other communities
in Yorkshire.
Brother Kaba maintained his satisfaction of LIMAUK as an association
of People of Mandingo descent living in the United Kingdom preserving
the Mandingo culture, protecting and promoting the interest of the Mandingo
communities. He encouraged dialogue and activities indicative of peace,
unity and reconciliation among members. He suggested the formation of
collaborative alliances with other Mande organizations operating within
the United Kingdom.
The occasion also witnessed the participation of the Women of LIMAUK in
special traditional dances to congratulate Mrs Kenneh for the proper performance
of her motherly role in the family. The head of the group Mrs Matenneh
Keita Dolley used the opportunity to advise other members of the organization
to emulate the good example of Mrs Kenneh and be the bedrock of every successful
LIMAUK family. Mrs Dolley expressed her delight of the way our sister is
performing her domestic role and the quality of the reception and service
at the occasion.
Sister Jenneh Sidibay who was the mother of the occasion expressed
her pleasure with the exhibited unity among members of the Liberian Mandingo
in the United Kingdom. She thanked those who took part of their busy
schedules of this demanding society to be present at this occasion to
pray and bless the family. She praised the Almighty for the blessing
of this child and prayed for the continuous blessing of our lord on this
family and all those asking for his favour either with a productive child,
wife or husband.
On behalf of the Kennah family, Br. Muyan Cherif of Manchester
thanked all those who made this day as historic as it can be especially
the presence of the family’s special invitee Hon. Kafumba Konneh.
After his remark the occasion was closed with a special prayer by Sheik
Abass Fofana who praised the Almighty for this occasion and the opportunity
as a part of the family to be in the midst of members of the community
to celebrate this favour of Allah.
Sheik Fofana praised the mission of LIMAUK to build the capacity
of the Mandingo community through community empowerment by providing
educational, health, social, community involvement and peace building.
He remarked that LIMAUK’s vision to become a growing organization
that will serve as a medium through which members of our community can
be empowered to positively participate in the development of the United
Kingdom and the rebuilding process of Liberia worth the support of all
Mandingos.
